Leadership is about empowering, improving, transforming and working together. At ACG School Jakarta, we believe leadership experiences should be available to students of all ages and year levels, so even our youngest learners are offered opportunities to develop these valuable skills and abilities.
While our Middle School students have the chance to understand and build leadership qualities in the classroom, our Middle School Student Council provides further responsibilities and activities for budding leaders.
Under the guidance and mentorship of Student Council Coordinator Annie Pickering, students learn to find their voice and represent their peers. In a recent interview, council member Yasmina Adimasadi (Year 11) shares her thoughts on being part of the leadership team for the 2021 - 2022 academic year.
What does it mean to be part of the leadership team at ACG School Jakarta?
I feel both happy and accomplished to be a part of this year's student council. I'm also looking forward to being a part of such an amazing team.
How did you feel when your name was announced as a Student Council member?
The feeling of anxiety and nervousness washed away as soon as my name was called. I did not expect to win the position, so I was very relieved to know I am a part of it now.
What qualities make a good leader?
Communication, creativity, critical thinking and being helpful.
Why do you feel it's so important for students to be involved in the leadership team?
It is important because students are also involved in building the school's activities and reputation. We are helping the school continually improve and become more sophisticated and provide a better experience for the whole school.
What do you consider to be your primary responsibilities as a student leader?
To be resourceful in discussions, always be helpful, and represent the school as a good role model.
Do you have a vision for what you would like to achieve over the next school year?
I would love to be a part of an event. I want to present ideas and lead with my peers fun activities.
What are your favourite subjects, and why?
Two of my favourite subjects are art and physical education. Art enables me to experiment and express myself in the form of creativeness. In PE, I like to keep myself active while learning about the scientific reasons behind it (science is incredible and fun!)
What advice do you have for students wanting to become future leaders?
To not be scared, just to try and just put yourself out there. There's no result if you don't try, and if you don't succeed, at least you know you tried, and there's always next time!
