Leadership is about empowering, improving, transforming and working together. At ACG School Jakarta, we believe leadership experiences should be available to students of all ages and year levels, so even our youngest learners are offered opportunities to develop these valuable skills and abilities.

While our Middle School students have the chance to understand and build leadership qualities in the classroom, our Middle School Student Council provides further responsibilities and activities for budding leaders.

Under the guidance and mentorship of Student Council Coordinator Annie Pickering, students learn to find their voice and represent their peers. In a recent interview, council member Etarina Kuru (Year 9) shares her thoughts on being part of the leadership team for the 2021 - 2022 academic year.

What does it mean to you to be part of the student leadership team at ACG School Jakarta?
It is an honour for me to be able to represent my fellow peers and provide a voice for their ideas and concerns.

What are you most looking forward to in this role?
I am definitely looking forward to organising events and working together with the other student council representatives.

Have you always wanted to be a part of the student leadership team?
At first, I was a bit hesitant about joining the student leadership programme, but now that I am on the team, I am very happy with my decision.

Why do you feel it’s so important for students to be involved in the leadership team?
Having students on the leadership team is important as we all have creative, innovative and new ideas. It also allows us to share ideas from other students.

What do you consider to be your primary responsibilities as a student leader?
My main responsibility as a student leader is to guide my fellow peers and help them whenever I am needed.

Do you have a vision for what you would like to achieve in the 2021 - 2022 academic year?
I would like to get to know as many students as possible in our current situation and familiarise myself with them.

What qualities make a good leader?
A great quality in a leader is integrity, as leaders need to be honest and follow their morals and have compassion for others.

What advice do you have for students wanting to become future leaders?
A good piece of advice I would give to future leaders is to be confident and believe in yourself.
