Leadership is about empowering, improving, transforming and working together. At ACG School Jakarta, we believe leadership experiences should be available to students of all ages and year levels, so even our youngest learners are offered opportunities to develop these valuable skills and abilities.
While our Middle School students have the chance to understand and build leadership qualities in the classroom, our Middle School Student Council provides further responsibilities and activities for budding leaders.
Under the guidance and mentorship of Student Council Coordinator Annie Pickering, students learn to find their voice and represent their peers. In a recent interview, council member Arief Iskandar Sufian (Year 10) shares his thoughts on being part of the leadership team for the 2021 - 2022 academic year.
What does it mean to be part of the leadership team at ACG School Jakarta?
As leaders, we need to have integrity, be brave risk-takers, and be reflective towards any mistakes.
How did you feel when your name was announced as a Student Council member?
I was excited as I worked hard to become one and prove my leadership. I also showed my experience as a leader in the past.
What qualities make a good leader?
Risk-taking, evaluative, reflective, hardworking, intuitive.
Why do you feel it's so important for students to be involved in the leadership team?
So that students have experience in leadership and acquire people skills and learn how to manage a group.
What are your favourite subjects, and why?
My favourite subjects are music and mathematics. Music, because my passion for composing music has become insanely intense. And based on peer feedback, my music has gotten better over the years. Mathematics, because it's always great to learn something new. I can also integrate it into both my daily life and other subjects such as physics.
What advice do you have for students wanting to become future leaders?
Focus on participating in school activities and be ready to take up any challenges ahead of you.
