Learner Profile of The Month: Inquirers

Science Lab

Inquiry is at the heart of teaching and learning at ACG School Jakarta. Inquirers develop their natural curiosity. They acquire the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and research and show independence in learning. They actively enjoy learning and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives (IBO, 2014). Students are often engaged in research activities at school and are encouraged to use the library and online resources in a way that helps them develop the qualities and characteristics of a lifelong learner and inquirer. We expect to see students:

• actively involved in researching, reading and talking
• asking questions and seeking help to find resources relevant to their learning
• pausing to reflect on findings and brainstorms
• listening to others’ questions to create new questions of their own
• interviewing students, teachers, and staff
• enthusiastically seeking answers independently
• questioning what they read

You can also help your son / daughter become an inquirer by:

• providing opportunities to arouse your son / daughter’s curiosity
• asking your son / daughter to help you find out answers together
• sharing with your son / daughter your personal curiosities and passion about topics that interest you
• helping your son / daughter find answers online and make sure she/he learns to use the Internet safely
• providing positive reinforcement when your son / daughter is acting as an Inquirer
